Move Updates -- Spinning

Look!

Yarn! Spinning! Evidence! Proof!
Ok, I only spun for about 35 minutes, but at least I got the spinning wheel out and spun. It made my whole day better.

The fiber is 100% huacaya alpaca. The colorway is one I call Calico Creme. The base fiber is from Drake (pictured in this post and that post) with blacks and browns added in for a heathery effect. The blend is a little fuzzy – at this point I don’t remember if that’s the way I carded it or if it’s Drake’s fiber. I think it’s some shorter fibers in Drake’s fleece. It’s not going to be skin-soft for everybody, but it’s good alpaca.

And it’s really good to be spinning again.

I just discovered you via the comments over at JenLa. Welcome to Huntsville. I do not know if you are looking for other people with whom to knit, spin, crochet, and craft, but if you are, here is some information.

You can sign up for the North Alabama Knitters Group over here.

The NAKG meets the second Tuesday afternoon of the month at 1 pm at Books-A-Million at University and the Parkway. They also meet there on the fourth Friday evening of the month at 7pm.

Every Monday night from about 7pm until closing in the cafe area of Barnes & Noble on University Drive we meet and knit and crochet and carry on. This is the wilder portion of the NAKG. I will be there tonight.

There is also a fiber guild in town. I don’t have many details, but others in the NAKG can help you out with this. There is spinning the second Monday night of the month at the main branch of the library at 6pm (I think). I think they get together in a conference room on the second floor.

Again, welcome to town!

Sarah, Thanks for the comment! Thank you. Thank you. Yes, I am looking for fiber crafters in the Huntsville area — particularly a spinning groups. Thank you very much for the information. If I didn’t have to be at work at 5:00 AM, I’d probably show up at the Barnes and Noble group this evening. That spinning group at the library sounds really interesting because my wife loves books but doesn’t spin or knit.
